The Purpose of Art: All art must convey something to the beholder. Artist that simply "expresses" himself is NOT ENOUGH. Art that expresses but does not convey is no art at all.
Now that Art must convey something worthwhile to the viewer, here are some points to consider. 1. Visual enjoyment in a distinctive way.
2. Communicate a worthwhile idea or message
3. Art must produce results that will later facilitate the the provision of one or both of the points above.
I think when you look at an artist like Charles Reid, one comes away with the excitement of light, and color. Another artist, Claire Harrigan, paints ordinarily objects in an expressive, colorful and abstract way. If you don't know of her work, look her up on Google She published a book "abstract and color , techniques in painting"
